Four Loko Alcohol Drink Sickens More Students
Central Washington University has
determined that Four Loko, a high alcohol fruit and energy drink sickened many
students at a party earlier this month. State Attorney General, Rob McKenna, is
being prompted to call a ban on the beverage.
Nine students were hospitalized
after the party with blood alcohol levels ranging from 0.12 to 0.35 percent.
The students were drinking Four Loko and some even claimed to drink the
pre-mixed drink with other alcohol.
Four Loko comes in several
flavored varieties and is sold at a low price. The drink comes in a 23.5 ounce
can and generally sells for just over $2.00.
The amount of alcohol in one can contains the same amount that is found
in five to six cans of beer. The drink is also filled with great deal of
caffeine which can suspend the effects of alcohol consumption. The students who
were hospitalized freshman students ranging from 17 to 19.
